Radar Signal Processing
In its role as technology Partner to Northrop Grumman Sperry Marine Systems in The Netherlands, Reelektronika has designed and developed a range of products known as Tele-DISCO (Digital Scan Converter) and VTS-Master.
The 40 MHz wide video signals from a radar receiver are compressed to 3 kHz to make real-time transmissions via public telephone lines possible. This very significant compression ratio does not introduce any visible image quality reduction. All moving targets can be selected for automatic tracking and determining the velocity vector. The strongly reduced data bandwidth makes recording on hard disks a very cost-effective and reliable event recorder.
Based on the same concept as the TeleMaster, compressed video information can via GSM be sent to a pilot on board of ships. This gives direct access to high-quality radar images from a number of VTS radar stations in the area of interest.
Along many rivers in The Netherlands as well as in other countries Tele-DISCO and VTS-Master equipment have been installed for VTS purposes.
Key Benefits
– Powerful signal compression allows high-resolution radar images to be sent via 3 kHz public telephone lines.
– Compressed radar data can be stored on HDDs for post-mission incident/accident analysis
– Pilots can receive high-resolution radar images via the GSM network on their portable laptop yielding images from areas not visible from the bridge
